Therapy/counseling
Individual counseling includes therapeutic services to youth and adults struggling with life difficulties such as anxiety, anger, addictions, depression, eating disorders, family discord separation or divorce, gender confusion, historic trauma, intimacy concerns, parenting struggles, violent/acting out behavior, sexual/physical violence, social difficulties at school or work.
Group and Family Therapy is available where this service is appropriate. Clients with similar needs/issues may benefit from a group experience. Groups with young people are an especially useful and effective method of addressing many issues. I have extensive experience working with groups of youth and young adults.
I offer therapeutic services to individuals, or their loved ones who have experienced trauma. Whether you have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or if you are feeling the effects of prolonged exposure to witnessing trauma or maybe you are caring for someone who has PTSD there is help for you. Traumatic experiences have a long lasting effect on a person’s sense of well-being, and their ability to live effective and happy lives.
Face-to-face session, online therapy, and telephone counselling and consultation are available options. Please contact me to learn more about counselling for you or your family members.
Consultation
Consultation services are available to professionals working with clients and families where violence and/or sexually inappropriate behavior has taken place. I have over 18 years of experience working with teens and adults who are sexually/physically violent. I participated in the development of Standards of Practice and Guidelines for the Treatment of Violent and Sexual Offenders in British Columbia. Treatment options and recommendations regarding case management are part of all consultation services. Consultation services are available in person, online via email, or by telephone.
Supervision/Support
Supportive debriefing and supervision is offered to those in the helping professions who may be exposed to trauma material. Professionals who witness trauma repeatedly or those who bear witness to trauma through the materials brought to them by their clients often have no where to turn for support and debriefing. The cumulative effects of exposure to vicarious trauma can lead to long-term physical and emotional harm. Too often employers are unable to see or understand the staff’s experiences, as they are not on the front line hearing and witnessing the traumatic material. Without access to adequate and appropriate support services the effects of the VT can be exacerbated. The result is seen in increased sick days and a decrease in efficiency on the job as staff struggle to manage the traumatic material. Essential to the successful navigation and transcendence of Vicarious Trauma is the opportunity for the professional to share their story with an knowledgeable, nonjudgmental and compassionate therapist.
Online Counselling
Online therapy/counseling is an option many people are choosing these days. When transportation, finances, weather and/or geography make attending a face-to-face session difficult or impossible online counselling/therapy is a good option. Some people even prefer e-therapy as it provides some a degree of anonymity, comfort and freedom not associated with face-to-face talk therapy. Having the opportunity to write to a therapist in the comfort of your home, anytime of day or night, is very attractive to many.
Secure email is available to those interested. Confidentiality is assured in all communication between the client and the therapist Contact me for more information.
