Matt Rader was born and raised on Vancouver Island. He is the author of two highly-acclaimed books of poetry, Miraculous Hours, and Living Things. His third collection is forthcoming from House of Anansi in Spring 2011. His poems, stories, and critical writing have appeared in publications around the world and have been nominated for numerous awards including the National Magazine Award, the Western Magazine Awards, the Gerald Lampert Award, The Journey Prize, and two Pushcart Prizes. He has taught writing and literature at the University of Oregon, Kwantlen Polytechnic University and North Island College. His writing values sustaining human activities such as farming, carpentry, and midwifery and looks for the universal in the particular, the specific, and the local.

Matthew Hooton has an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University in England, and a BA in Writing from the University of Victoria in Canada. His first novel, Deloume Road, was published in Canada by Knopf (Random House), and in the UK by Jonathan Cape (Random House) in the spring of 2010. Hooton has taught writing, business presentation, tourism English, and conversational English to ESL students of all ages in South Korea. He has worked in the private sector teaching English to elementary school children through multimedia and recreation, as well in the post-secondary system, teaching both undergraduate courses and continuing education classes.

Tina Rader is a Registered Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of practice on Vancouver Island in the fields of child services, family therapy and youth forensic psychiatric services. She has developed strong relationships with  many Aboriginal communities on Vancouver Island and has worked extensively in the youth justice system in British Columbia. She holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and Dalhouise Univeristy.

Melanie Willson is a Registered Nurse who has worked for nine years with childbearing families in hospital, home and in the community, in both British Columbia and Oregon. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia, and completed a perinatal nursing specialty program through the British Columbia Institute of Technolgy. She has had the honour of being part of the birth experiences of hundreds of families, and is the mother of two daughters, both born at home. Melanie currently teaches in the Practical Nursing Program at North Island College.
